Plan for Observations
Students will work in small groups during the lesson. Each observer will focus on one group. See observation protocol. Observers should attend to:
- how the group develops its definition of depression (e.g., by integrating ideas, stringing ideas together or some other process)
- group dynamics that facilitate or impede the group (e.g., asking relevant questions; irrelevant, off task activity)
- the extent to which students are interested in and engaged with the task
- evidence that students connect their definition to predicted test scores
Types of Evidence
Evidence will consist of
- written work in the form of group definitions, explanations of validity studies and students’ end of class reflections on their understanding
- oral responses to questions raised in class
- oral responses in small groups
- interactions in the groups
